Government Spending News

Financial Year,Treasurer,Jim Chalmers

Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor has taken aim at the Labor government’s soon-to-be-released spending plans in next month’s federal Budget, accusing his counterpart Jim Chalmers of having no tangible strategy to bring down inflation.

The Federal Treasurer and shadow treasurer have continued to butt heads over the 2024 Budget , with the Coalition slamming what it sees as mismanaged economic policies of the government.

“He thinks the answer to the cost-of-living crisis is to put out a press release. No, the answer is to do the hard things that’s going to put downward pressure on prices and going to set up the Australian economy for longer term, private sector-driven growth, which is how you achieve growth. His comments followed the Treasurer's earlier rebuke of the Liberals for always being in opposition to government spending, but historically failing to deliver budget surpluses and instead growing deficit.

“Angus Taylor is as guilty as anyone for the waste and rorts that defined the economic mismanagement of our Liberal predecessors. They should come clean and tell us where their cuts will come from.”
