Australia is trying to keep the dispute in perspective with China dealing with blow-back across the world over its 'wolf warrior' diplomacy auspol

Mr Cheng rejected Australia's concerns over his comments and "called on Australia to put aside ideological bias" and do more to promote bilateral relations. Both Australia and China will now look to de-escalate tensions after trading barbs over the past two days, according to senior sources within the Australian government.

The tit-for-tat has led to souring political relationships but new research from the Australian National University shows the impact on trade is likely to be minimal. "For most cases, the general finding of either insignificant or small and short-lived effects of conflict shocks on export growth holds," Mr Agarwal said.

Jane Golley, the director of the Australian Centre on China in the World, said the research showed there was a minimal relationship between political and trade outcomes."The economist could look at this and say 'great, the political relationship doesn't matter we can continue to poke them and it doesn't matter, the trade will keep trading'," she said.

Agricultural exports could be more susceptible to consumer boycotts if a strong anti-Australian sentiment takes hold, but this was more likely to be driven by individual consumers.

I'd know what I'd be saying to the Chinese human right abuser government. (Yes, Aust hands ain't clean either )

What bluff. Covid needs to be investigated so we can all learn from why it didn’t get stopped earlier. Everyone benefits

China needs to be transparent...there are many questions unanswered....people from all over the world, not just Australia, want to know the truth

Time to stop Chinese Communist Party inc stealing our jobs and eroding our sovereignty.

Stop CCP immigrants

What have we (Australia) got to worry about? We have want they need.

let's add some perspective here. Chinese students come to Aus Uni's as a 1st step to PR. Employment here reside here get away from ccp here bring rest fam Aus isnt the only beneficiary to this situation. Chinese students aren't here simply for the best education money can buy.

Wish Australia could be more independent and only consider the Australian interest first! Not USA, not China. The politicians can speak less, but do more to develop our Australia better.

Looks like WHO is involved probably why realDonaldTrump POTUS pulled funding, I guess if China have lost a taste for our exports, No Chinese goods. No Chinese foreign investment in Australia COVID_Australia

China need to help by financial means or aid countries and global citizens effected by a virus that begun within their borders....boycott!!!...we should be boycotting China!!

Perhaps time for Australia to get a bit more inventive and increases investment in home-grown tech industries and the like, not just mineral and fuel exports

If China really believes their own words, that is :coronavirus is originated from USA, then they should wholeheartedly support a full investigation.

This will be a big blow for Australia 🇦🇺

The blame for our economic woes rests squarely with the government itself. They are trying to deflect criticism of Dutton's Border Force, by shouting at China. The only way to resolve this is by diplomacy and genuine inquiry, not criticism

Australia government should grows some ball's take back all asset from China and kick them out of Australia

We have all ready shut down 50% of China by locking down in Australia.

Australia is not an honest broker. aligned with the EU which put out a report claiming Russian 'disinfo' On what, the severity of the virus? Russia has introduced very tough measures, so it can only be it has defended China against vicious US led propaganda & disinfo

If China stops buying goods from us we are cooked big time..

F*** them they think they are above the law or scrutiny...

🛑⭕️❌Boycott made in China 🇨🇳☠️👹👿🤛🏻🤛🏻🤛🏻🤛🏻😡😡😡🤢🤢🤢

Do not threaten the Australian people. You need to export. What happens if Australians stop buying goods made in China? Two can play that game. Grow up and stop playing the bully, it never works.

Should we let the US to take the lead in this situation because if the US will agree a deal with China we will be loosing market share in China.

'Wolf Warrior' diplomacy equals THEY are at war with us and 'all's fair' in their conniving minds. As Jim would say...

what happens if the chinese threats are not a bluff all of our exports could be sourced elsewhere, have we taken a sword into a gun fight?

China is now low in foreign exchange reserve, they must reduce buying from outside to save dollars... threat is a show for brain wash people and act as a wolf warrior...

Sutton needs to shut his mouth and stick to his own portfolio and let Morrison run the show. It’s called diplomacy for a reason. shutupyaspud

What's Beijing going to do, find another Australia?

China’s exports have gone into recession so it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Let’s hope so.

Why is anyone suprised that China might use an economic stick against those who think they can continually bash it without consequences The Chinese public are a very proud lot, and consumer boycotts are a favored way of standing up for their nation. Time we get up to speed
