From Adelaide to Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, poor ventilation in medi-hotels has been blamed for coronavirus outbreaks and shutdowns across the country.

Experts are calling for a national ventilation standard in buildings to combat the risk of spread

Professor Hanmer is part of the International Code Council's pandemic task force — a global team of experts considering how building design can reduce the spread of disease. "The biggest technical change that needs to be made is the way that we deal with naturally ventilated buildings. That's most aged care facilities or schools," he said.

"At this stage, there is insufficient evidence to indicate that a change to the NCC is required or that there is in fact a technical solution available to this form of transmission," a spokesman said.

Hopefully the Govt. will pay for all those multi stores apartments and hotels to revamp their ventilation systems.

Better ventilation would help mitigating hotel quarantine there is a possibility that negative tested person can get infected.a Study says that toilet is high risk area and virus can stay in toilet pipes and when one flushes he/she can get infected.

🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Despite this the hotels have worked well in their primary function of keeping pathogens out. It will however be an electorate decision to develop purpose built facilities which may never be used for decades. Competing for these funds will be hospitals seeking improvements.

Of course it can. I've been saying this for a year. If flu and colds can be caught in Air conditioned office buildings ( which they are), why couldn't Covid be spread in the same way. Offices have recycled air, closed windows and no balconies. I've tweeted this opinion often.

They've known this for over a hundred years. Sometimes the old ways were the best ways.

the stupidity of building windowless rooms Just too much troubles for cleaners to be shutting windows

whats exactly medical about tourist accomodation? are we going to start booking in open heart surgery next to the hotel bar? Call it for what it is you LNP stooge: failure of federal government quarantine responsibility

Dumping people in inner city hotels with small rooms is beyond dumb. How long as this Govt. had to organise sensible facilities? No vision whatsoever.

The development of UVC lights that don't produce too much heat will be a game changer for virus and bacteria control.
