After two shark attacks in two years, locals say they've had enough and are calling for culling. 9News

Berry, a year 11 student, had been riding a jet ski at Fremantle when she jumped in the water and was mauled by what is suspected to be a bull shark on Saturday.

"After we've lost those 10 lives, then you can make a decision, or you could make a decision now and save them," local Deane Barker said. "What this has highlighted is a lot of people don't know very much about the bull sharks if it is indeed a bull," mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said. Bull Sharks are not on the council's shark tagging program, despite experts saying they should be, and that it could save the lives of both people and sharks.

It’s not the sharks fault. The swimmers are invading the sharks home. The shark also hasn’t been told he is not supposed to attack humans Culling should not be an option. People should stay out of the sharks homes

9NewsSyd Why? It’s the sharks natural home. Don’t swim there.

It's the sharks home and environment. Humans enter at their own risk. Who are we to deny this nature?

Maybe not swim where sharks lives. Sorry for their loss, you take that chance anytime by getting in the water where meat eaters are! Maybe educate would be better answer!!!!!!

We tried the culling with the vaccine mandates didn't we? I think that upset even more people

Don’t swim near the mouth of a river.

Or just don't be in their habitat 🤣

pretty sure the sharks were there before us

well stay out of their homes , the water belongs to the sharks. respect nature.

Plenty of people kill people on land, which is our natural habitat. We don't go around culling people now, do we? The water is the shark's natural habitat. Maybe patrols/drones would have picked up the shark? Not an greenie, just making a common sense statement.

Maybe we should cull humans for not having brains everytime they jump in the ocean and expect not to be any risk? 😅

Why did she jump into the water off of a jet ski? Earlier reports said it was 'to swim near dolphins', but that's absent here.

Surprised bull sharks weren’t tagged. I never felt safe swimming in the Swan & made sure not to. That bridge area always seemed eerie to me.

Just find and kill the offending shark. There’s no need to go on a culling

But what was the sharks pronouns?

9NewsPerth Imagine calling for a cull when we are the ones that are trespassing in their home 🤣 humans are disgusting creatures I swear

You don't go playing in the savannah and then get eaten by a lion, then say kill the lion. As tragic as it is, humans kill 100 million sharks per year. We're doing enough damage as it is.

The water is there domain. Enter at own risk.

9NewsMelb Meanwhile the culling of Australians and people around the world continues and not a peep. 👀

LOL. Seems thought out.

Leave rhe sharks alone! The ocean is their habit! People murder people every single minute around the world. Let's cull people too.

2nd death in 100 years. First Nations people are far more dangerous and unpredictable to the general public than a few pesky sharks in the river.

Tell them to get fucked and go swim in a pool

If their food is eaten in large quantities what sharks will eat So reduce fishing numnuts

Culling will achieve nothing

Lets show them sharks who's at the top of the animal kingdom - kill them all 🤨

Use the Shark Smart app.

2 attacks in 2 years and theyre calling for culling? How about we cull the people and not thw sharks.

9NewsPerth We have dominion over them - fishing them out is part of keeping the balance - cull cull cull

9NewsPerth Massive overreaction to a tragic loss. Culling them isn't the answer. Locals need to grow a brain. Maybe stop over fishing the river

Horrific as it is. A sharks environment is the ocean. You can’t cull them. That’s their habitat.

9NewsMelb Great decision by locals

the water is the sharks’ domain, unfortunately humans swim at their own peril

9NewsMelb Stay out of the fking water then. Shark attacks are the risk you take

9NewsSyd Total overreaction, as tragic as this recent attack & death was.

Shark nets considered after rare attack in Swan River that killed teenager Stella BerryLittle is known about the presence of sharks in Perth's Swan River, as authorities weigh up the installation of nets following the first fatal shark bite in the river in 100 years. Maybe swimming with the shark wasn't the best idea Oh please government, take away a bit more of our freedom. If it stops just one person being killed in the next century then it will be worth it. The shark was probably after the dolphins that were also present at the time, it is an unfortunate case of mistaken identity. There is no reason for an overreaction, shark nets would disrupt every other animal in the river.
