Victorian Chief Medical Officer Andrew Wilson said there had been 2692 cases of COVID-19 among Victorian healthcare workers as of August 23, most occurring in July and August.
In hospitals, 70 per cent of infections were among nurses, while about 11 per cent were doctors, the data showed. Australian Medical Association president Omar Khorshid says current infection control measures are not working in Victoria.Dr Khorshid said he had asked the federal government to revise current guidelines that do not require higher-grade P2 or N95 respirator masks for use with all COVID-19 patients.
She said she had "no idea" whether she had contracted the virus from a patient or a co-worker, as "there's positive people everywhere". Health Workers Union Victorian president Diana Asmar said the vast majority of infections in the aged care sector were among workers at facilities run by private providers.
Ms Mikakos said the virus had often spread among colleagues when they had taken off their masks while on a meal break, or were having a cup of coffee together in a tea room.
At NSW hospital Fever Clinic last week NO nurses were wearing N95 masks, just surgical/duckbill masks and face shields. I witnessed a nurse talking a nasal swab trigger a reflex sneeze (common) and the area was awash with droplets and aerosol spread! Where is the appropriate PPE?
Highly infectious in close quarters. Only unicorns were going to stop that. There are no unicorns on earth. We can't citizen arrests the govt for that!
IT IS NOT A DEADLY VIRUS YOU LOSERS, WHY DO YOU KEEP BABBLING SUCH NONSENSE, ALMOST NO ONE HAS DIED FROM IT.
Well the chances of catching it at home alone are less so... yeh this makes sense, ok let’s pile in on the government then!
How? Surely they wear masks!
Our CMO has it all under control. Nothing to see here.
And here was me thinking they caught it on the golf course?
Previously it was stated only 20%. It seemed odd at the time
and upto 100% will survive...
