Environmental groups and businesses connected with electric cars call for the vehicles to be exempt from stamp duty if a tax on how many kilometres they drive passes South Australian Parliament.

Environmental groups and businesses connected with electric cars have called for the vehicles to be exempt from stamp duty if a tax on how many kilometres they drive passes South Australian Parliament.

The Australia Institute's South Australian director, Noah Schultz-Byard, said a survey had found seven out of 10 South Australians would be less likely to buy an electric vehicle if the government introduced the road user charge. It would eventually help recuperate lower tax collected from the fuel tax excise as more people turn to electric cars.

I think to be fair, the government fuel taxes should be scrapped at Petrol stations then. Replaced with annual usage road tax on rego for different vehicle types (weight based) dont care if its EV or ICE. A motorcycle would be less tax per KM, less road impact.

Well..that's a trick
