A south-east Queensland cafe owner arrested after she and her staff allegedly refused police directions to wear masks has been unable to attend her court hearing in person because she would not put on a mask.
Sarah Parsons, 38, was due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning on a contravene requirement charge. Police said officers visited the New Earth Cafe in Coolum three times to ask Ms Parsons and her staff to wear a mask.In a video published shortly after her arrest, Ms Parsons said she and all staff at her cafe had medical conditions and were exempt from wearing masks.
The business owner was fined $1,378 at the time for failing to comply with a COVID-19 health direction and a 34-year-old staff member was fined $206 for not wearing a mask.Attending court on Friday, she did not put on a mask when asked to by security. She was unable to enter and left.In footage released by Queensland Police, officers at the cafe can be heard saying that the compliance visits were prompted by complaints from the public.

This is a respirably transmissible disease. That is a fact. It can also be transmitted by touch contact with the virus. How can anyone in the food handling industry be allowed to operate Unmasked Ungloved Unvaccinated? I would avoid that cafe like the plague. (Pun intended)

One of these nutters was waiting to be served cigarettes, no mask, reckons she had a ' medical exemption', scum. Always seems to be knuckleheaded young guys, or frustrated middle aged single women.

She’s not being asked to wear a mask in contravention of her “medical exemption”; she’s being asked to wear a mask when serving food and drink to customers. If she really has an exemption then she has to find a new way to make a living.
