As Joan Harlow celebrated her 105th birthday in Busselton, Western Australia, she took some time to reflect on some key moments in her life.
Nel spent about four years in a concentration camp in Sumatra with the famous nurse Vivian Bullwinkel. The eldest of four, she would spend most of her time as a youngster by the Swan River or at the beach. To this day Ms Harlow plays her grand piano regularly and composed a short piece entitled Glowing Light, which was professionally transcribed in Italy.She said life there had been an absolute joy and that the people were her favourite thing about the area, closely followed by its beaches."You've got to live somewhere with water."
