The nation's top business lobbying group is facing pressure to commit to a more progressive climate change stance.

In 2018, the BCA said Labor's plan for a 45 per cent reduction in emissions by 2030 was "economy wrecking", saying instead the government's 26 per cent target was "appropriate and achievable".The chief executive of the BCA, Jennifer Westacott, doubled down on the claimswhere she said there had been "little analysis" of the economic cost of adopting a 45 per cent target, and doing so would be "excessively risky".

Mr Cannon-Brookes said he is "very hopeful" the BCA's stance "changes massively" under new chairman, former MYOB boss Tim Reed.Paul Bassat, a prominent investor, founder of employment website SEEK and board director of the AFL and conglomerate Wesfarmers described the bushfire crisis this week as "our generation's Port Arthur moment", referring to the 1996 massacre which prompted the Howard government to tighten gun laws.

"The government and all Australians must take much more aggressive measures to reduce emissions," Mr Bassat told. "For those that are sceptical, the simple question I ask is: 'What if you are wrong? Are you prepared to gamble the planet on your non-scientific hunch?'"

What ever he's ONLY using delay tactics...it's bullcrap smoke & mirrors... disgusting as usual. How this ScottyfromMarketing thinks he'll get away with this. So many people with breathing ailments... people dying because of toxic air quality. He's got blood on his hands Weird how so many here think Our PM is a God. 😂 who can alter the course of The Earths Climate to put a stop to any natural disaster, especially bush fires which msny were intentionally lit by the way. We will all be here next decade so relax and get a life. He is prepared to spend $100m on a Royal Commission that won't deliver its (non-binding) recommendations for a couple of years. Reading the smoke signals from Morrison on climate changeScott Morrison can be as cagey with his language as John Howard. A small shift in his words about climate change could signal bigger changes to come. Scott Morrison has vowed deeper cuts to carbon emissions and to help Australians adapt to a ‘hotter, drier’ environment: The Australian WB Hotter environment , Hmm? REMINDER: Sun drives climate here on Earth, NOT a trace-gas, and Scott Morrison isn't a wizard with the ability to magically change an entire planet's climate. He can tax the shit out of you in the name of 'global warming', but that's about the extent of his parlor tricks. The media need to keep the pressure on and not accept marketing strategies or ‘breathing space’. What is he doing, what will it achieve, by when, what will be involved. Not interested in secret plans

'Port Arthur moment': Business urges PM to lead on climate amid bushfire crisisBusiness leaders have described the unfolding bushfire crisis as a 'Port Arthur moment', urging the Morrison government to adopt a co-ordinated national strategy to confront climate change Are these the same business leaders who cheered on the repeal of the carbon tax that was, you know, actually working at reducing emissions? I agree, stupid laws were put in place after Port Arthur, let’s see what we have in store now. One obvious starting point
