A large-scale light show, similar to Uluru's Field Of Light and the Spectra beams at Dark Mofo, is suggested as a way to bring tourists back.

Tasmania's tourism industry has asked for $2 million of federal money for a"world-class", large-scale light installation using MONA's brand to draw tourists to the far south of the state to fast-track the region's bushfire recovery. The closure of the Tahune Airwalk tourist attraction has hit the local community hard with businesses seeing a downturn in trade

The success of light show installations such as Uluru's Field Of Light and Dark Mofo attractions are the inspiration behind a plan to help the region Tourism industry council says a semi-permanent installation could be a way to increase visitor activityvisitor centre, near Geeveston, is still standing, but the Riveaux Road fire burnt through the Airwalk area and it was unclear when the attraction would be able to re-open.

The Tahune Airwalk is the major tourist drawcard south of Huonville, attracting more than 70,000 visitors a year. In a letter requesting federal funding, MONA subsidiary DarkLab, the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania and Destination Southern Tasmania said they wanted to establish a"large-scale, semi-permanent art installation" in the Geeveston/Dover area to stimulate tourist activity in the south while the Tahune Airwalk was closed.
