Cricket: England has handed the West Indies their first defeat of the T20 World Cup, winning by eight wickets in St Lucia.

England down Windies in St Lucia | 00:56 Suryakumar Yadav smashed a half-century before India ’s bowlers slammed the brakes on Afghanistan ’s flamboyant shot-makers to romp to a 47-run win in the T20 World Cup on Thursday.

“We adapted well and got 180, which was a great effort from the batters,” India captain Rohit Sharma said. Bumrah finished with a career best 3-7 from his four overs while fellow seamer Arshdeep Singh took 3-36. “We knew we’d be chasing 160-170 given it was against a bigger team. We could’ve done it had we executed smarter,” Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan admitted.

His 11-ball cameo had yielded 20 runs when he was LBW to Rashid attempting an ill-judged reverse sweep.
