Tuesday’s federal budget will include a massive provision for pay rises in aged care and childcare as well as the recent decision to apply compulsory superannuation to parental leave.

and childcare as well as the recent decision to pay superannuation on parental leave, which alone will cost more than $600 million a year.

Dr Chalmers has also revealed the budget will include “a multibillion-dollar provision towards wage increases for early childhood educators and aged care workers”. He said funding for the childcare wage increase, yet to be granted, would take into account this year’s minimum wage increase, which is due to be handed down next month.

As well, he noted that of the $3 billion in higher education loans expected to be written off under changes to how interest was charged, around $1.75 billion is expected to be written off for women. “We’ll give you the fuller package ... We said we’ll deliver a tax package before the next election which is in keeping with the stage three tax cuts,” Mr Taylor said.
