The AFL is bracing for a significant disruption to play on Friday night should Lance Franklin kick his 1000th goal at the SCG, with plans in place for both teams to leave the field as fans celebrate.
But goalkicking legend Tony Lockett is not expected to be in attendance, having told the Swans he has a prior engagement. The Swans have also invited the other three living members of the 1000-club in Jason Dunstall, Gary Ablett senior and Doug Wade.A source familiar with the matter said the AFL has prepared a 20-minute highlights reel of Franklin’s career that will be beamed on the big screen in the moments after he becomes just the sixth player to kick 1000 goals.
He managed just one goal last week against old rival Phil Davis, who polled one vote in the AFL Coaches Association’s player of the year award. Meanwhile, Swans youngster Logan McDonald has signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until the end of the 2024 season. The contract was signed a couple of weeks ago and announced on Tuesday.
