Japanese star Naomi Osaka capped off the opening ceremony in style but the internet was more interested in another country’s flag bearer.

Wearing traditional Tongan dress in Tokyo, Taufatofua again pleased the masses by showing off his sculpted abs. The stadium may have been largely empty because of Covid-19 restrictions, but the 37-year-old still attracted plenty of eyeballs. Taufatofua re-posted much of the attention he received on his own Instagram story as he lapped up his cult figure status.

Taufatofua joked he was hiding from the Olympic flame because with all the oil covering his body, he was at risk of being “deep fried”.“Thanks all for the tags and love. Not sure if going viral during a pandemic is a good thing but I appreciate all the messages and support,” he tweeted.
