| Prime Minister Liz Truss’ tax-cutting budget and the ensuing market mayhem has prompted a precipitous plunge in her popularity, with Labour opening up an unprecedented 33-point lead over the Conservatives.
Ms Truss does not need to call an election until the end of 2024, but the poll confirms that the fallout from her chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini-budget last Friday has robbed the new prime minister of any honeymoon period.that she was prepared to take unpopular decisions for the good of the economy.
