British Airways begins a two-day strike, grounding nearly all of its flights and disrupting thousands of passengers in a dispute over pay.

British Airways says it has offered the pilots a pay raise of 11.5 per cent over three years, but the union says its members want a bigger share of the company's profits.

The union accuses British Airways of making big profits at the expense of workers who made sacrifices during hard times."They've previously taken big pay cuts to help the company through hard times," Mr Strutton said. "Now BA is making billions of pounds [dollars] of profit, its pilots have made a fair, reasonable and affordable claim for pay and benefits."American aircraft manufacturer Boeing is shedding billions monthly as a result of a global ban on its top-selling jet, the 737 MAX — but how much more blowback can the company take?

Meanwhile, BA has also been criticised over its communications with passengers ahead of the strike, which has caused thousands of people to change their travel plans. The UK Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the airline after it enraged some travellers by wrongly telling them their flights had been cancelled.During the strikes, BA must offer passengers reimbursement for cancelled flights, alternate travel arrangements under comparable conditions or a new flight at a later date.
