Queensland Health data shows a significant portion of infection growth across the state is still being driven by two key hotspots, where peak case and hospital impacts will be felt first.

Chief Health Officer John Gerrard described the jump in people hospitalised with the virus in the 24-hours to Sunday night — from 670 to 702 — as significant, with 47 requiring intensive care and 15 of those on ventilators. “We are expecting Gold Coast to peak sometime in the next week or so and Brisbane will follow shortly thereafter,” he said, after previously highlighting that Queensland’s decentralised nature meant the timing of peaks would vary across the state.
