The number of microbreweries across these south-east Queensland regions have spiked in recent years - going from just two in 2013 to 18. Read about Brisbane's love affair with beer here:

A combination of good timing, good beer and savvy brewers means Brisbane is quickly becoming a hot spot for craft brewers with a dream to open up a pub and offer something different to the city.

“It’s fair enough to say we’ve been overwhelmed with the response, we’re pretty humbled by how much Brisbane has gravitated to us,” Mr Cranston said.“Clearly there is a desire for the people of Brisbane to … visit breweries and visit places that are social and communal, where you can bring friends, family, young, old, dogs, the works.

Mr Champion said he ran six months of pilot brews, testing and perfecting what would become the Felons range, in smaller tanks before scaling the recipes up to the big 2500 litre tanks that stand proudly within the Felons warehouse-style bar.“There was a brief and that was definitely that we wanted to celebrate Australian ingredients,” he said.

“I think there’s a really good opportunity along with beer, wine and spirits for Brisbane to say ‘Hey, come visit us and there’s 10 or 20-odd breweries and other makers that you can see’.” Scott Robertson and Luke Nixon, owners of Soapbox Beer in Fortitude Valley, at the bar in their new craft beer pub.The result is a comfortable, laid-back space, with a semi-industrial edge and a busy kitchen with a chef who loves adding beer to his recipes, on a street corner where passers-by might be surprised to find a brew pub.

“The industry minister set up a beer taskforce, even at that sort of level there is progress being made in an industry direction,” Mr Nixon said.In November, State Development Minister Cameron Dick announced the state’s first craft brewing strategy, to support a $62-million-a-year industry that had already increased its national market share up 2.8 per cent from 2016-17.

Paralympics Australia calls out 'injustices', fires warning for Brisbane 2032Australia's Paralympic sporting chiefs lay out their blueprint for the next 10 years — but the plan comes with a warning not to repeat the mistakes of Sydney 2000, where Para-sport missed out on increased levels of funding. What a waste of money for both the able and disabled games. Don't pump more money into the disabled games, reduce the money to the able games, so they both have the same funding. Use the money saved for public housing. 👍

South Brisbane apartment height limits increased to 270m in line with CBDThe change to apartment height limits comes as part of the council's Brisbane Sustainable Growth Strategy, adding a supposed 10,000 dwellings to the housing market. I’m not sure this is clever development unfortunately. Queensland frequently goes overboard on such decisions without thinking through the consequences. Inability to use Surfers Paradise beaches in the afternoon is a perfect example… Bring in 200,000 more people to Austtralia. Live in pods and eat bugs. I propose these tall poppies be built on platforms floating to guard against the day they're brought down to size. ClimateChangeWillChange
