The wet weather will create the perfect conditions for a boost in mosquito numbers.

Heavy rain was felt across the city on Sunday morning, mainly in the city's east and south-east. Bondi and Sydney's CBD had 46 millimetres of rain between 9am and noon, while Little Bay had 69mm and Lucas Heights had 54mm.On Sunday, the NSW SES had responded to 700 jobs, primarily in the northern beaches, Blacktown, Bankstown and Gosford.

Dr Cameron Webb from the University of Sydney said one of the best was to reduce mosquito numbers was, "as soon as the rain stops, try to tip out containers filled with water," he said.
