Henri's Armchair, by Brett Whiteley, painted in 1974 and 1975, to be auctioned by Menzies in Sydney on November 26 with an estimate of $5 million to $7 million.Justin Turner, head of art at Menzies, said it was rare for a Whiteley work of its scale, subject matter, provenance, exhibition history and literary referencing to come onto the public market."Brett Whiteley is obviously one of the most celebrated Australian artists.

Turner said the painting had been referenced "in just about every book written about Whiteley's paintings" including thea seven-volume collection of his lifetime's work by art historian Kathie Sutherland.
