Former AFL great Brendan Fevola has opened up on his personal transformation from troubled rogue to media sensation. Last week former St Kilda star Sam Fisher was jailed for more than five years for drug trafficking. Fisher, 41, was arrested by police in 2022 and last week in Melbourne’s County Court he pleaded guilty to six drug offences. Fevola, 43, and Fisher’s paths crossed when they were both playing football. Fisher was a gun defender and Fevola was a champion forward.
“But if I didn’t have that, I don’t know where I’d be because I didn’t set myself up. “I wasted my money. I didn’t have a degree. I didn’t worry about school. I never studied ... like I’d literally be stuffed. “I wouldn’t know what to do with my life, and I think that’s where Sam was. And I think a lot of AFL players are in that situation.” Fevola said “the biggest issue” facing players when their football careers ended was finding the right path to follow and not gambling away their money.
