Brad Scott is no longer a contender to become Carlton head coach after taking up a position in the AFL's football department.He had been linked with the Carlton head coach positionScott, who coached North Melbourne from 2010 to 2019, appeared to be among the leading candidates to succeed David Teague at the Blues, but has instead been appointed as the AFL's general manager of football.

Scott, a two-time premiership player with the Brisbane Lions, most recently worked as the head of AFL Victoria. His new portfolio includes umpiring, talent pathways, game analysis and list management, the match review officer, tribunal and review system, the competition committee and player education.

Kane will be responsible for football operations and competition management for all AFL-run competitions, including the AFL, AFLW, VFL and VFLW, along with COVID-19 management and football projects.
