NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has called for 'maturity' from the Rail, Tram and Bus Union as thousands of Sydney bus services are cancelled due to driver shortages across the state.

Sydney commuters are being warned to"brace for chaos" as thousands of bus services are axed from Monday.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson declared the adjusted timetables were"temporary" with the government to work with private bus operators to address driver shortages. “We will continue to work with operators and scheduling experts to ensure timetable adjustments are as efficient as possible and are working towards reinstating suspended services as soon as possible," the spokesperson said.

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union has blamed the government's"failed" bus privatisation model for the cancellations, declaring it has"nothing to do with bus drivers". "We’re already seeing incredibly large queues at some bus stops, but we’re expecting that get much worse today and the rest of the week when many people return to work and kids return to school."
