Boyd Cordner floats radical Origin plan to salvage season

But should COVID-19 continue to wipe out any hopes of an NRL comeback, Cordner said the game needed to salvage something from a horror 2020, and an extended Origin series could be the solution.

Cordner, the Roosters captain, remained in the dark about what the future looked like for the game but was happy to put forward a few ideas of his own.His suggestions are sure to be given some thought by Wayne Pearce, who has been entrusted with the task of heading up athat will determine the best way to fill a 20-week competition.

"If September 1 does come around and we haven't played any footy and we can't play, why not pick a squad of 30 players for NSW and Queensland, isolate them, then play a five or seven-game Origin series when fans can come and watch,'' Cordner told"I'm only spitballing ideas. But something like that would be pretty cool.

Cordner was like every other player and keen to return as soon as possible. He liked the idea of every club playing each other the once, followed by the finals and then the Origin series.Origin, however, would work best when the government got around to lifting its stadium lockouts.
