A 37-year-old woman has been charged after a young boy dobbed her into police for leaving him and six other children alone in a hot car for more than 20 minutes.

As temperatures reached 26C on Friday, the four-year-old boy called 911 from a phone he found in the vehicle, telling cops the children were hot and didn't know where they were.authorities were able to trace the call to a shopping centre parking lot in Waldorf. The seven children, aged two to four, were found locked in the car with the windows rolled up and the engine off.

Police said they helped the children out of the car before the woman returned about 10 minutes later.The woman was the mother of two of the children and was babysitting the others.
