The Queensland government's response to the Sydney coronavirus outbreak does not make any sense and is an overreaction according to NSW Planning Minister and Pittwater MP Rob Stokes. NSW recorded five new cases of community transmission overnight - all on the Northern Beaches and all linked to the Avalon cluster. Queensland has shut off its border to the entire state of New South Wales amid the outbreak, trashing the holiday plans for many interstate tourists.
Mr Stokes said the border closure was an "overreaction" to the situation as the handling of the Avalon cluster was a "textbook example of how to respond" to an outbreak. "What more can we do? We have locked-down the community which is the epicentre of this outbreak. Everyone is doing everything that's asked of them," he said. "There is no more risk in other parts of Sydney than there are in other parts of the country.
