Bondi to open for swimmers, surfers next week

Waverley Council voted to ease the social distancing restrictions, with certain areas for water access to open between 7am and 5pm on weekdays only, after mayor Paula Masselos put forward the plans in an unexpected minute on Tuesday night.Credit:The move comes after Randwick City Council opened its beaches for strictly exercises from Monday, and is expected to closely monitor the situation as more people flock to the water amid rising temperatures this week.

The decision to close its beaches was made after hordes of sunbathers flouted social distancing guidelines late last month.Cr Masselos will address the media on Wednesday afternoon about the specific details of plans to allow access, which are expected to include corridors to prevent people from idling on the sand.

Residents took to social media on Tuesday night to post photographs of electronic road signs found in the Bondi Beach car park that read "Swim & Go Access" and "Surf & Go Access".Loading Randwick City Council announced residents would be allowed to return to Coogee, Clovelly and Maroubra beaches on Sunday, but strictly for exercise only.

Next warm day the TV crews and photographers should avoid the beaches. Go to Bondi Junction Station and bus terminals, they will packed in for a great day at Bondi Beach. Eastern beaches are urban beaches with limited parking. Most arrive by train and bus.
