Central Australia and parts of Queensland have already received a deluge this week, and more wild weather is on the way for the south-east in what's shaping up to be a soggy season.

The Bureau of Meteorology has announced a La Niña alert, signalling a 70 per cent chance that the rainfall-encouraging climate driver will form in the coming months.BOM declares an alert indicating a 70pc chance of a La Niña forming in the coming months

La Niña is typically associated with wetter-than-average conditions for northern and eastern AustraliaThe BOM has indicated the shift from La Niña watch to La Niña alert has come after the eastern Pacific Ocean continued to cool throughout September. Six of the seven climate models the BOM monitor now indicate Australia will reach La Niña status by November.

La Niña conditions traditionally encourage wetter-than-average spring and summer conditions for northern and eastern Australia.
