Paddy's Markets into a rejuvenated food precinct has divided store holders but managers of the institution argue the makeover is necessary.

The market dates back to 1834 when hay and grain traders moved to join the food sellers and second-hand dealers in Haymarket. Now the market is a place for clothes and souvenirs but Doltone Hospitality Group is hoping to create an "authentic" food precinct inside.Yi Ming Weng's luggage business has held prime position for 25 years but under the new plans, he will be pushed further back."I think the business will collapse, that's my opinion."The plan has divided stall holders but managers of the institution argue the makeover is necessary.

"Now that we have passed that stage it is time for renewal, rejuvenation," Haymarket Chamber of Commerce president Vincent Lim said. The City of Sydney is hoping also hoping to spend millions giving China Town a facelift as well as Dixon Street mall.Continue reading
