A body found during the search for a missing boy yesterday was found with injuries consistent with a crocodile attack.The state's environment department says the community has indicated they would like the crocodile removed from the wild.Police said the boat had been taking on water in rough conditions.
Senior Sergeant Greg Giles believes the injuries on the body found, believed to be that of the 16-year-old, were consistent with a crocodile attack."A foot search was conducted along the shoreline of Saibai Island where they located the ," Senior Sergeant Giles said. In a statement, the department said it "extended its condolences to the family and friends of a teenager who died in waters off Saibai Island early yesterday morning".Program coordinator Simon Booth said the injuries on the body found were consistent with an attack from a 3.5-metre crocodile.
"Certainly the community have indicated they would like the crocodile removed from the wild, and that's consistent with the Queensland government management plan following an attack on a person.
