The gruesome discovery on the banks of the Ganges is the latest in the humanitarian crisis unfolding in India — the point of origin of a strain of coronavirus the WHO has labelled a global concern.

The bodies of dozens of suspected COVID-19 victims have washed up on the banks of the Ganges river in northern India. Many of the bodies are believed to have been dumped, including by families who cannot afford wood for funeral pyresThe WHO has classified the Indian variant of the virus as being 'of concern at a global level'

"We have directed concerned officials to dispose of all bodies, to either bury or cremate them," Mr Kumar said. The total number of bodies washed up on the river banks in Buxar and nearby could be as high as 100, reports said.

It is terrible situation. Government of India just busy in building new parliament amid covid crises. They is fund mismanagement. World aid is not getting distributed wisely to all corners.

Seems totally healthy. Not.

How about for some better news. (1 crore = 10m; 1 lakh = 100k) IndiaFightsCOVID19 CovidIndia

It happens occasionally when people do not use enough wood for the cremation (usually due to poverty) resulting in half burnt bodies going into the river. This report however highlights a higher body count is a reflection of COVID in rural areas

Ummm if anyone did their research over at the ABC they would realise this is normal. Poor ppl who can’t afford burial ceremonies place the bodies in the river

They’re running out of wood for the funeral pyres.

But not a peep about 0 deaths in the UK and fewer than 10 cases in Israel yesterday. Fear mongering garbage is all you are doing 24/7.

Well, WHO would have thought this was possible? Almost everybody who understands and accepts Covid19 spread vector principles. DeniersWillDeny PeopleWillDie

Maybe if people weren’t engaging in religious mass gatherings this wouldn’t have been as severe Also, they need to seriously take a look at their caste system

What complete and utter BS. Water burials are common in india. Most people cremate their loved ones and scatter the ashes in the Ganges but if they can't afford the cremation they release and float the body into the water.

Slow down' don't lose your humanity.

That is grim.

It's OK though. It's a Holy river ,so you can't possibly catch anything. Maybe if India concentrated on all it's people, regardless of religion ,they would not be up shit river without a paddle.
