NRL: The Fox League panel discuss the Blues best halves combination with the injury to superstar halfback Nathan Cleary.

The Blues’ halves selection headache has been thrown into turmoil after Nathan Cleary’s hamstring injury, likely ruling him out for the series.

First Sea Eagles superstar Tom Trbojevic suffered a hamstring injury that’s seen him sidelined for the first two games of the Origin series. “It’s very disappointing for him. Obviously I’m torn between his coach and his Dad right now,” he said.So now, without Cleary who was locked in for the NSW No.7 jersey, who could be the Blues’ halves pairing?

“Who knows, there is obviously a lot going on there in the halves with injuries and people available. I’m sure Keary would fit in.”“I think Madge would say the same, form is key,” added Robinson. “Everyone’s searching for consistency and if Burto finds that consistency and does it for 80 minutes and does it for a few weeks in a row, then we won’t be talking about if he’s in those teams, he will be in those teams.”

“If Nathan Cleary is ruled out of State of Origin it is going to be good fortune for someone, I just wonder is this now affecting Dylan Edwards’ opportunity?” Graham said. “It might be a legs tackle then it’s a quick play the ball, then there’s time and space on the edges for Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam... It all stems from the middle.

Yvonne Sampson then asked the panel why the Eels were being “left behind”, with Michael Ennis pointing to one reason.“I think the big thing for them is that Brad Arthur and the recruitment team have gone with a big style of pack. And when you play with a big style of pack, you need to win field position so you can condense your defensive line and go after sides physically,” Ennis said.

In the win over the Sea Eagles, Fuller was everywhere, running for 141 metres and recording three tackle busts, two offloads and a line break in addition to his jaw-dropping solo try. The supercoach did laud Fuller, a 27-year-old who only made his NRL debut last season after plying his trade for the Dolphins in the Queensland Cup.“I think he’s a very special player. The size of him, the way he plays, but I saw that in the state league,” Bennett said.

While Bennett has implied that Tabuai-Fidow will play fullback when he returns, we did see Bennett play the ‘Hammer’ in the centres at times last season to play Kodi Nikorima in the No. 1 jersey.“Hammer’s coming back next week. has to be in the squad, whether he’s on the bench,” Fletcher said.Eels can ‘turn it around’ as star declares ‘our DNA is still there’
