Analysis | Blocking Australia’s supply of AstraZeneca will not fix the problems that have plagued Italy’s dangerously slow vaccine rollout

distributed so far have been administered, and in impoverished Calabria and hardest hit Lombardy, it’s even worse. More than two months after the first jab on December 27, only 2.48 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.

But Italy is not going begging for supply. Of the 1.5 million AstraZeneca doses it has received, it has given only 350,000 doses. It is true that the 250,000 doses that Draghi blocked from shipment to Australia were packaged near Rome, but these were not part of the Italian stockpile. These were separate doses made to fulfil the order Australia put in last year.At his first meeting of European leaders last month, Draghi urged the union to clamp down on exports — as the United States has done — to boost supply and unlock curfew-weary Europe.

Us Brits have recently applied to join CPTPP. We’ll get the Americans to join, too. At that point, the EU will shit themselves 👊

No Mario, you can’t print money to get rid of the virus....useless c***.

The SMH , Politics_SMHAGE and 9NewsAUS will probably take the weekend off like Porter and Reynolds. 9's main man ScoMo needs a break.

The EU, as always, procrastinated. They decided they wanted to cast doubt on the AstraZeneca vaccine - they’re now desperately scrambling to keep hold of every dose they can, now that they realise it’s a great vaccine for all. They don’t care about Australians or anyone else.

Instead of blocking vaccine meant for Australia, Draghi should be begging Australia to show him how to manage Covid, which the Italians are clearly incompetent at. And I say that as an Italian-born Australian.

Now you know why Brexit was the best thing to happen to UK..

Italy fooled itself and is totally responsible for the position it is in now.

Making you could exploit Italy into paying you, too. Just lobby Murdoch again. Why stop at Facebook?

Analysis: Posting stories about analysis of vaccine rollouts will not fix the problems that have plagued Nines takeover of Fairfax, including incredibly out of touch commentary by one Chris Ulhmann.

Surely it’s part politicking, not being seen to let vaccine go to others when Italians are yet to be immunized!

Italy blocking AstraZeneca shipment a reminder of the ‘desperation’ around the world | Sky News AustraliaFinance Minister Simon Birmingham says Italy’s decision to block a shipment of AstraZeneca doses to Australia is a reminder of the “desperation” which exists in other parts of the world.\n\nItaly’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the move to prevent the shipment of 250,000 doses was made because Australia is not vulnerable, and AstraZeneca is not delivering enough supplies to Europe.\n\n“I don’t think we should see this as a target at Australia,” Mr Birmingham told Sky News.\n\n“But I think it is very much a reminder of the desperation that exists in other parts of the world compared with the very good position we find ourselves in here in Australia.\n\nMr Birmingham said Australia had fared better than most nations on the economy, COVID transmission, and vaccines.\n\n“We would rather this decision by Italian authorities and the EU had not occurred,” he said.\n\n“But the reality is we had 300,000 doses delivered last week and that will see our current distribution plan work until we have the domestic production of some 50 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine come online at the end of March.'\n Birmo AstraZeneca Now you know why we wanted out. Birmo AstraZeneca Yeah humanity is desperate to be injected with something they don't know what so big pharma can make money. ‘Shortsighted and sad’: Why Australia has made a big mistake with AstraZenecaAustralia had the opportunity to do something truly remarkable in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead, we’re stuffing it up. We're Ummm don't think so.. God we are stupid! We have let a bunch of bored journos who are borderline unemployed if it wasn't for our own stupidity influence our decisions on health 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ We should be making it and distributing it around Oceania, Africa and Latin America. God knows we need to act as the developed country in our region and beyond to hopefully make some friends we need later whilst we are at it.
