New South Wales and Victoria are bracing for destructive winds through the weekend with South Gippsland likely to see peak gusts of 120 kilometres an hour. 9News

The ACT is also forecast to experience strong and potentially damaging winds today, however conditions are expected to ease slightly tomorrow.For Alpine peaks above 1900 metres, damaging winds averaging 80 to 90 km/h and gusts of in excess of 120km/h are likely today.

Thredbo and Perisher could experience blizzards today with NSW National Parks and Wildlife recommending people avoid any travel until conditions improve.Victoria is expected to experience a particularly cold weekend with temperatures expected to drop to 8C in Melbourne today. Horsham, Bendigo and Seymour have a forecast low of 6C while Ballarat and Wangaratta cold drop to 5C.Strong winds and heavy rain are predicted to lashing Melbourne as a the cold front moves across Victoria. The highest temperature in Tasmania today could be as low as 14C with most parts of the state set to experience wintery conditions throughout the weekend.QueenslandTemperatures in Brisbane could drop to 10C today with a maximum of 24C later in the afternoon.
