Cate Blanchett scores best actress Oscar nomination but Baz Luhrmann snubbed for best director

abc.net.au/news/2023-academy-award-nominations-revealed-oscars/101889542Cate Blanchett will be looking to win her third Oscar after she was nominated for her leading performance in Tár, leading Australian hopes at the 95th Academy Awards in March.

Baz Luhrmann missed out on a best director nomination for his Elvis Presley biopic Elvis but the film still managed to score seven nominations, including Best Picture and Actor in a Leading Role for its star Austin Butler. Luhrmann's wife, Catherine Martin – who co-produced the film – was also nominated for best production design and best costume design.

Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan's multiverse-skipping sci-fi indie hit Everything Everywhere All at Once landed a leading 11 nominations on Tuesday, including nods for Michelle Yeoh and comeback kid Ke Huy Quan.The 10 movies up for best picture are: Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Banshees of Inisherin, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, Elvis, All Quiet on the Western Front, Women Talking and Triangle of Sadness.
