A blame game has erupted between politicians and education deans over who is responsible for declining writing skills in NSW schools |

, while a review of education degrees found there was “significant variation” in the extent to which universities prepared trainee teachers.Thirty per cent of respondents said they had never had training from their employer in how to teach writing.Almost 10 years of NAPLAN data has found high school students are going backwards in writing, and many are struggling to write clearly enough to demonstrate what they’ve learned.

The government would support them “to make sure that they are focusing on producing the highest quality graduates that have the capacity and skills, particularly when it comes to teaching something as fundamental as writing,” she said. “I think a bigger issue is teachers who don’t have access to that professional learning. Teachers have a real appetite for learning about teaching writing, and they’re not getting access to quality professional learning.”

“When they go into classrooms for their practical [work experience], they don’t see a lot of writing. That’s when they decide whether it’s valuable or not. Schools have not been able to value writing.”Ms Mitchell said the Best in Class expert teaching team is being expanded to include at least 20 specialty writing teachers across a range of subject areas. "Their priority will be in years 7-10, which corresponds with the finding of the Australian writing survey," she said.

Politicians or experts? Let’s ask D Trump how that’s working out with Covid. Or the MDBA with all the water gliding out of the Murray mouth.

Probably LNP gutting gonski and giving a tonne of money to private schools while the media does no reporting about it, just a hunch🤷‍♂️
