There is growing hope a Tamil family at the centre of a long-running immigration debate could be freed from detention as early as today.

An announcement is expected to come from Immigration Minister Alex Hawke who is trying to deal with the situation which came to a head after four-year-old Tharnicaa the was airlifted to Perth Children’s Hospital.

Tharnicaa received emergency treatment for pneumonia and a blood infection in Perth after being sick for 10 days in the Christmas Island detention centre where the family had been detained since August 2019. The family hopes to return to Biloela in rural central Queensland where they had been welcomed by the local community before they were detained in March 2018 after their visas expired.

As usual Sky 2 hours behind the ABC 🤪🤪🤪

is it that bloody hard for our government to show some decency and let them stay or it this how far we have sunk. Maybe the real problem is the admission Tamils are a persecuted group in Sri Lanka

What's the bet they don't even speak English but will be Australian in no time?

Send them back to Shri Lanka, Australia is FULL.

Yes let them stay, but make it very clear to all their supporters, that the sideshow they have created, and their attempts to game the system will not be tolerated going forward. Birth in Australia does not equal citizenship, arriving illegally does not mean you stay forever.

Pfffft

Not a single story on QAnon Scott. Cowards.

Clearing up Coalition messes prior to an election or deflecting and diverting from other bad news - take your pick.

Oooft. This can’t sit well with the conservative RWNJ’s at NewsQorp.

The Australian public force Morrison into an embarrassing backflip ScottyFromQanon

With falling poll numbers & blood bath state & territory elections against the LNP, this family is about to become a political football. The LNP will try to use them to sway votes. More optics from SloMo.

Biloela Tamil family likely to be released from detention and reunited with sick daughter in PerthSBS News understands the immigration minister is preparing to make an announcement within 24 hours - and is likely to, at least temporarily, release them from detention. That's not a certainty. You could be giving false hope. They should have gone home. Manipulated by lawyers, media and leftist politicians. Poor children have had their lives destroyed. Family waiting in Sri Lanka. PRETEND COMPASSION BEFORE ELECTION

Biloela demands Tamil asylum seeker family be returned 'home' at moving birthday gathering for sick childSupporters of the Tamil asylum-seeker family detained on Christmas Island beg the federal government to bring 'our little family home' to the Queensland town of Biloela. Biloela people are very sweet. But for most of the war, the Tamils were the aggressors. India issued an open invitation for them to return to Tamil Nadu. More ABC victims… Would they show that much support for Brenton Tarrant? Nades held 'leadership positions' in a proscribed terrorist organisation that carried out many terror attacks including SHOOTING UP A MOSQUE AND KILLING 147 MEN AND BOYS!

'This has gone on for too long': Split emerges within Coalition on future of Biloela familyOpinions are split within government ranks over whether a family currently detained on Christmas Island should be allowed to settle in their adopted home of Biloela. The courts have ruled against this family time and time again. Time to send them back to Sri Lanka. It really saddens me that LNP politicians have come to the party before our ABC. Internal polling must be a concern for some Liberal's. The abuse of children was not a problem for all of them last week. They all voted for the repeal of Medivac.

‘They should never have been sent’: Biloela family’s fate to be decided within daysImmigration Minister Alex Hawke is close to a final decision on whether to intervene in a long-running court dispute over the family’s claims, with Liberals and Nationals asking him to let them rejoin the community. Sad story Sorry. While I do feel for them - why didn’t they just go home? TWICE they were on the plane to Sri Lanka and their lawyers “stopped the plane”. This is totally self-inflicted pain. Australian children abused sexually assaulted going hungry what's wrong won't sell enough papers or the pollies can't use as they use the children as pawns for self interest All the focus on one family imagine how many Aussies kids would be helped if they had as much coverage
