Bill Gates, who remains a board member at Microsoft, believes Microsoft would have an even more dominant position if it had beat Google and developed Android. 9News

Speaking at an event hosted by a venture capital firm, the multi-billionaire revealed Microsoft’s greatest lapse in judgement came when the tech giant allowed Google to develop the Android OS.

The failure was widely attributed to attracting and retaining apps on the platform. “It really is winner take all,” he said. “If you’re there with half as many apps or 90% as many apps, you’re on your way to complete doom. There’s room for exactly one non-Apple operating system, and what’s that worth? $A573 billion,” he said.

The businessman also said he had managed to come a long way from the man he was in his 20s who “didn’t believe in weekends” and “didn’t believe in vacations.”“Once I got into my 30s, I could hardly even imagine how I had done that,” he said.Despite now finding a work-life balance, Gates said he still believes he wouldn’t be where he is without the sacrifices made years earlier.

😆😂😂🤣 The money hungry Microsoft would have priced it to fail. When Windows CE/winmo first launched (way before Android) Microsoft tried to make XDA developers charge well above market per ROM/App. Google succeeded because of opensource development.
