Exclusive: New teaching jobs with salaries up to $130,000 a year to stop classroom exodus | lucy_carroll

New teaching jobs with salaries up to $130,000 a year would be created to stop an exodus of educators from classrooms and entice students into the profession, under sweeping reforms planned by the NSW government.

“NSW has some of the best teachers in the world, but they often leave the classroom and move into management roles to secure higher pay and career progression,” Mitchell said. To earn higher salaries, many teachers abandon the classroom to become principals, deputies, take head office jobs or leave the profession entirely.

Earlier this month, federal Education Minister Jason Clare said chronic shortages of maths and science teachers were most acute in high schools. Hattie, who led one of the world’s biggest studies into the factors which improve student learning, will give independent advice“The rewarding of excellence and expertise is the right topic to realise high standards and maximise positive impacts on students,” Professor Hattie said. “It is exciting to be part of these NSW discussions and I look forward to hearing the views of the profession.”

lucy_carroll ?

lucy_carroll Maybe if you could afford to have a roof over your head on less than $80k a year there wouldn’t be such a big exodus.

lucy_carroll what a joke . how long can they bash teachers ?

Qldaah lucy_carroll Have you sacked bevanshields yet?

lucy_carroll Jeez I wonder why Teachers are leaving in droves? Especially when it's got pretty much nothing to do with pay....

Qldaah lucy_carroll Now do early childhood educators.

lucy_carroll $130k for a 6 hour day and no KPIs, in order to peddle your own hare brained perspective seems pretty sweet.

lucy_carroll I still won’t recommend it for higher achievers.ibecause you study hard to feed into socialist system which focusses on average outcomes in name of equality. If high achievers get a pathway to teach similar high talent it might be attractive.job satisfaction matters to many

lucy_carroll “Being considered” We are not heading for a crisis, we are in a crisis. Any initiatives to increase pay that are tied to arduous paperwork are missing the point; it’s the compliance and admin that are causing many to leave. Just pay teachers to reflect the importance of the job.
