Triple J is in the midst of its biggest programming shake-up in years, with five presenters announcing their departure from the youth broadcaster in just one month.

Triple J's content director, Ollie Wards, admitted there were some "big shoes to fill" in 2020. But he is confident the broadcaster's young audience will be happy with the new lineup to be announced on Wednesday.

"We are really excited for the next evolution of Triple J," he said. "We've got some absolute legends moving on. At our heart, we're all about playing great music. That's not going anywhere." Media analyst Peter Cox said it was risky for a radio station to change its line-up so extensively. The communications professional helped start Sydney radio station 2DayFM in the 1980s. However, he said Triple J isn't any ordinary radio station because of its niche audience.Mr Cox also pointed out that Triple J would be protected to some extent from any listener backlash given it is publicly funded.
