When Berivan was freed from ISIS captivity she faced a terrible choice: leave her homeland forever or abandon her daughter. Now she hopes Australia will come to the rescue.

An orphanage in Syria for children who were born to Yazidi mothers who were enslaved by their ISIS fathers. Berivan faced an impossible choice: abandon Maria and return to what remains of the Yazidi community or be cast out and find a way to raise her child alone."We just want to live like other people, a free life," she says. "Maria can attend school and I can do something for myself, and we can live together."

"So there's great hatred for the men who committed these crimes, the fathers. And sadly, that's transferred to the children, who are completely innocent.""The families of [ISIS] victims will not forgive [ISIS]," she says. "There is a lot of anger within them, they may even kill the children." When the ISIS caliphate fell women and their children fled. Some women were ISIS members. Others like Berivan were enslaved Yazidi women."As the blockades continued the situation became more difficult, there was nothing there, we were eating grass, it was a difficult time, there wasn't any milk.

After difficult negotiations, he was successful in persuading the Kurdish authorities in Syria to return the children to their mothers.In a video of one reunion, the small children sit in puffy jackets with no idea what is about to happen.The children look bewildered.
