Berejiklian’s pick for coveted position dealt significant blow after losing vote | Rabe9

Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s push to elevate a Liberal woman to upper house president has been dealt a significant blow after Labor and the crossbench took extraordinary steps to break with centuries of parliamentary convention., which carries a salary equivalent to a minister. However, Nationals MP Trevor Khan is now most likely to be appointed, despite not nominating for the position.

“This is a motion which is designed to potentially usurp any decision the government may wish to make in terms of their candidate,” Mr Tudehope said.
