Berejiklian majority at risk as sex selection amendment fails | alexsmithsmh lisavisentin

Mrs Davies said she would not announce her future until after the final version of the bill had passed the lower house, which could happen later on Thursday.

But Liberals close to Mrs Davies say she is the most likely of the two to abandon the government, although Mr Conolly has never ruled out joining her on the crossbench., which she and upper house MPs Matthew Mason-Cox and Lou Amato had planned to move against Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Tuesday. The trio withdrew the motion within 12 hours, with Mrs Davies saying she had been offered "concessions" in terms of amendments to the bill.Finance Minister Damien Tudehope moved the motion to ban gender selection, which has been one of the key sticking points in the abortion debate for conservative MPs.

"If, in fact, abortions are - or could be - happening because of sex selection why don't we outlaw it," Mr Tudehope told the upper house. "If in fact gender sex selection is directed principally at girls, the greatest advocacy we can do in relation to anti-discrimination law is ban their killing.""It is hard to accept that we would not want the gold standard of legislation relating to termination of pregnancy," Mr Tudehope said.

AlexSmithSMH LisaVisentin What warped sense of entitlement these politicians have - they should not have any say in what a person can or cannot do with their own body. Who died & made them God? They can't get roads, development, hospitals or schools right & now they want to decide this LOL. gladysb

AlexSmithSMH LisaVisentin What possible reason can MPs have for not banning gender selection? Have they all been bought by the Chinese?
