Victoria's escalating feud with the Morrison government over the Belt and Road Initiative shows how Beijing is exploiting differences within countries and regions, experts say

Beijing is exploiting differences within countries and regions over the Belt and Road Initiative all over the world, national security experts warn, as it ramps up its push to become a global health and infrastructure leader in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas sparked controversy earlier this month when he accused the federal government of vilifying China and engaging in "dangerous, damaging and irresponsible" diplomacy in singling out Beijing for its role in the pandemic.Mr Pallas’ comments – which strayed from a focus on economic benefits in Victoria and into foreign policy – infuriated Canberra.

"There are no geopolitical risks, there are only friendly relations," Mr Di Maio said in March as Italy responded to the coronavirus outbreak. The country has recorded almost 38,000 deaths from the coronavirus. Pakistan’s Imran Khan – who has one of the largest exposures to the Belt and Road Initiative through a $94.7 billion Pakistan-China economic corridor – noted China's effective prevention and control efforts had "curbed the spread of the virus globally".

Mr Lemahieu said China was also looking to exploit differences in the US, targeting politicians in California who did not adopt Washington’s more strident approach towards Beijing.

What utter rubbish

It is also showing the failure of the Federal Govt to treat all states fairly regardless of which Party is in power!

Who are these experts that are being quoted, “expert = drip under pressure”

The LNP in Victoria has been starved of corruption opportunities.

China don't need to do any exploiting, the LNP are just doing all the imploding themselves.

Expert at what? Lol

Jeebus, they really have short memories

Fixed: Media orgs. on behalf of the criminal Federal Liberal party are scrambling to find a distraction which sticks, that removes the illegal extortion racket led by PM Morrison from news bulletins. An illegal operation which saw 2000+ Aussies dead & over $720million extorted!

Chinese Communist Party cultivates puppets on both sides of politics! Well meaning progressives easily scammed!

Bullshit. China is not exploiting differences, the federal government is creating one.

paintsandsings I think it's the LNP strategy of blame shifting their response to covid 19 to China

I GET THE DISTINCT FEELING THIS IS A 'BEAT UP' FROM THE LIBERAL PARTY TO 'GET DAN' BECAUSE OF HIS LEADERSHIP SKILLS.

Experts don't say, Murdoch papers do lie

That’s right. What about the families .. jobs .. stress and another host of problems he has brought to Victorians. 😟😟😟😟

Anywhere but China BoycottChineseProducts BoycottMadeInChina BoycottChineseApp Chinazi CCP_is_terrorist

If only Chairman Dan could have left foreign policy to the feds. But to do that he would have had to read the Australian Constitution. God help you Victoria, the rest of us don’t feel particularly motivated at the moment.

Then the experts are idiots. Any fool can see it’s just the LNP trying to distract from their monumental stuff ups.

Be wary of CCP's penetration

👇

Gallo_Ways ErykBagshaw It is surprising that neither the Victoria timpallas nor the Federal Government JoshFrydenberg have discovered that China itself sits on a huge mountain of debt. Not only that. But that debt has pushed Chinese oil demand and therefore oil prices upward

The Foreign Investment Review Board, overseen by Treasurer Josh Frydenberg. Jones writes, “In 2018 alone, they had 11,000 applications worth more than $168 billion. They approved all but five.'

China's funds are the carrot. China's agendas are the baggage. And Andrews is the porter.

The US bombs, invades & arms 'moderate militants' in other countries.. And you think China investing in infrastructure exploits tensions. 'Experts' smh says 🤦🏼‍♂️

In 2018 the LNP signed up Australia to the same initiative, then made all details secret.

Why hasn't the Federal Government veto'd and stopped this deal in the water ? ? ?

Une des raisons pour laquelle il y a quelques mois le président Trump a averti les Etats américains sur les avancées chinoises et les accords conclus.

What feud is this? First I've heard of it.

'National Security Experts' putting paranoia before prosperity!

Darwin port. I rest my case

No, it shows that Victoria is a Marxist enclave and threat to national security.

Who are the so called experts? What’s their qualification & experience? Lmao !

Victoria must take a decision on national interest which is against China and it's greed

Get with it, you ideological fruitcake LNP/IPA:

All the right wing dicks whinging in here: The former Liberal Vic Govt started this process and the current LNP Federal Govt have also signed a Belt and Road MOU. You're all being used as useful idiots to spread propaganda. Well done

I mean, moving to Melbourne has become way more enticing.

The most effective tool in the arsenal of authoritarian powers: Divide and Rule. Australia, despite its self-image of raw toughness and independence, will be permanently crippled by those who (fairly easily) exploit our long-ignored internal divisions.

Red Dan is a child of the Labor Party, Like Albo he has never run a business, or worked in a job where he could be sacked. What do people really expect from Andrews ?

Morriscum and the LNP have and are in bed with China for years kettle pot

Victoria the cuckold state. VIC LABOR wants to sit back and watch OUR country get fuc.........

Crap.

t's the stupidity of ComradeDan that has gotten Victoria, and Australia, in this embarrassing position

Dissident Chinese artist warns of hidden cost of Beijing's Belt and Road dealThe artist has added his voice to the chorus of criticism of Premier Dan Andrews and his state Labor government over the decision to sign up to China’s global $1.5 trillion Belt and Road Initiative. He's one 'dissident artist'. So what? There are 1.4 billion people in China or 1/5 of the world's population. If they really wanted to, they could change their government by next Tuesday. Most clearly don't. We should respect that. Risk Assessment shall be conducted by experts who has experience on trade with mutual benefit of China and Australia, not some artist who know nothing about economy, market and political science. Chairman Dan is not listening.
