Just 16 minutes into the contest, Barty had broken Muchova twice and lead 5-0. She took the first set 6-1 in a match that resembled more of match simulation than a grand slam quarter-final.
But at 2-1 in the second set, with Barty already up a break, the Australian’s momentum was haltered by Muchova’s decision to seek treatment and call an injury time-out.Muchova immediately broke the Barty serve and then confidently held to take a 3-2 lead in the second set.All in all, she won 11 of the next 14 games to crush Barty’s hopes of a dream final at her home slam.
In an interesting admission after the match, Muchova said she didn’t take the medical time-out for an abdominal injury that hampered her earlier in the tournament but instead said her “head was spinning”.“My head was spinning and I took a break, it helped me, I tried to get back and play faster rallies and it worked well.”
