Barnaby Joyce said he was “absolutely certain” the party would lose its extra cabinet minister he had negotiated upon retaking the leadership had he confronted then-prime minister Morrison over his encroachment into the resources portfolio.

Former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce says he didn’t push back after Scott Morrison overruled Nationals’ resources minister Keith Pitt and rejected a controversial gas project because he did not want the junior Coalition partner’s power to be further diminished in cabinet.

“If I pursued this, it was quite simple. He just took away the portfolio that we weren’t entitled to and took us back to the number we were entitled to. He would have the portfolio back and we lose all power.

Barnaby's candid interview revealed how he gained an extra cabinet position but also extra publicly funded staff. This exactly what the Teal Independents tried on by threatening the new governments agenda. The current prime minister stared them down.

The Australian’s buried scoop on Morrison begs the question: who knew what, when? | Weekly BeastOz journalists criticised for sitting on dynamite revelations of grab for power for two years. Plus: journalism’s gender gap Media are SO predictable. Yep he wouldn't have thought of this himself. This is an advice for the future almost Murdochish. Had to laugh at Charmers description of the book as a “forensic” look at the pandemic management. A huge big neon, flashing red flag falls into their laps and neither the so called journalists nor the Australian editors recognised the scope or importance of the issue. 🙄😠
