Airport, has since gone viral around the country and prompted an "urgent investigation" conducted by contracting company Swissport, used by Qantas.
"Swissport trains and manages all staff to handle customer possessions with care and diligence," a Swissport spokesman said."Our 3,000 strong team across the network works hard to ensure these standards are upheld, and it is important that when those standards are breached by a small group of individuals that we take action.
"An urgent investigation was undertaken into the recent behaviour of two team members at Melbourne Airport who were handling customer luggage in an unacceptable manner.READ MORE:
Redbull gives you wings
Truely disgusting & cost of flights are going up
My mail order bride had a terrible bump on her head...now I know how she got it !
Wow 😳
I’ve seen State Rail do it as well .. but guess getting caught on camera .. broke rule no 1 Don’t get caught !
Pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
The baggage handler at BNE said the automatic equipment pre-handling is really rough on baggage.
Brah this is what we expect they’re doing. This is a non story.
Lean from Japan !
What
Disgraceful and they should be made an example of.
So many people lack pride in their job. You have one job. Whatever your job is do it well and to the best of your ability.
Fired without a formal warning? Don't u think everyone deserves the chance to see that their actions are not acceptable?
Good luck finding another job boys. Someone should publish their names so that prospective employers know who to avoid.
That good them got sack
Maybe just now & then check what your staff are doing.
Red bull helps you fling!
Bad behaviour deserves a swift response
Now how about an external investigation into the conduct of AlanJoyce?
Hope the bags that went over back edge were the last to come out! That’s where mine must end up 🙄
Why sensor the identity so that they can hunt for another job!
Surely the subcontractor understand the influence of something?
When minimum wage and Fat CEO Bonus collide
Red Bull gave them wwwiiiinnngggggssss
It's an analogy for years 2020 to 2022, the baggage handlers are the beuraucrats and politicians, the bags are the people they were payed to 'serve'.
Import third world, become third world.
Sacking these won’t solve the core problem.
Who took the video footage?
They slam the bags down like that hoping they will break open so they can take anything valuable. That way it just looks like they are picking things up that have been spilled on the floor and it doesn’t look too suspicious. Why else would they do this?
Very disgraceful from the subcontractors doing that to customers' belongings. Qantas also has a responsibility to its customers. Stop contracting this work out, employ within, and pay decent wages. There's a saying 'pay peanuts, get monkeys'
I hope this doesn’t happen to my luggage.
This is all part of the conditioning process to get us to accept more control mechanisms such as security camera monitoring…it’s for our own good they’ll say - the worst is yet to come
PITY THE EXCESS DEATHS FROM THE POISONOUS EXPERIMENTAL POKE WEREN’T INVESTIGATED - but then that’s deemed not newsworthy
Obviously need more girls working there.
90% of items found in the average persons luggage is basically dirty laundry, shoes and items taken from hotel bathrooms. Qantas got rid of their entire ground staff Australia wide by making them redundant. This is what you wanted Qantas. Stop acting so shocked.
That’s an absolute disgrace …. What’s wrong with people 😤 glad they were sacked
That how suitcase get broken or smashed things inside a suircase
But were they only fired? The people who owned that baggage were given some kind of compensation?
Why is the manager not sacked?
Standard operating procedure
This makes me so angry
Qantas are a joke how does Joyce still have a job?
Being’s Human life sometimes can’t control…? ( out of thoughts? )
Sack the fkers!
No wonder the bags are always broken 😂
Two? The only problem I saw was the 1 guy that threw the bag over his head…people are being ridiculous if they think bags are treated with any more care, wonder if they’d mind waiting an extra 30 minutes in order for them to delicately place each one lightly on the bag belt 😂
Taking out their frustrations with management of Qantas
Oh my lord. No wonder our bags always come out battered to death.
No surprises. Of course it’s the workers’ fault. Perhaps an evaluation of Qantas’s policy of vaccine mandates for staff and passengers would lead to a more realistic conclusion.
Oh my gosh
Could start with the CEO who sacked 5000 QANTAS staff. Then took just under a billion $ from the government. Then takes his CEO income and blames the people that made the brand.
HULK S M A S H
It's like watching Alan Joyce handle the airlines reputation.
I really don't see the big deal. That's what I always assumed baggage handlers did. That's why I pack differently.
Put cameras in place for future
Still bagging on about this 🥱🥱
Yep if it was someone else doing that too thier luggage they would screaming thier lungs out.
Here is a simple fix, install security camera (for security reasons of course) let the workers know, problem solved ..now, where do I send my consultants invoice too ? 👉🏼😂😂👉🏼💩
should fire the guy/girl who filmed them as well
Disgraceful
This was the wing of the Qantas plane I was flying on a couple of swings ago doesnt install much confidence on the maintenance and pre flight checks being done
These reckless people should never be hired again
Now l know how my suitcase got smashed.
Proudly supported by RedBull, the crap drink choice that baggage handlers drink!
9NewsPerth Good - now the guy in charge please
and their management that would have seen what they did and allowed it to happen?
Last time I travel with my Louis Vuitton luggage😢
Seriously people travel with too much crap
'an urgent internal investigation.' Now please do a report on the need for an urgent investigation into the vx deaths, harms, and why Qantas vx mandated its staff.
Too many red bulls
Yes . Because they are the only ones 🙈
Let’s stop saying “subcontracted”as if this somehow absolves or excuses Qantas from accountability
When you pay 23 dollars an hour what do you expect
These guys are funny. Would be a lot more efficient and less taxing if they did it properly. Obviously not that sharp these guys
Why did it take so long. This was a cut and dried case.
Show their faces so they are never employed ever again.
This is the reason when I flew qantas back to Sydney from Adelaide my bag is now missing a wheel
There’s no doubt that they’re irresponsible and should be sacked from their jobs but It’s like building your house with a project builder that hires inexperienced subcontractors .. who’s responsible when defects occur ? It’s their job to find good subcontractors 🙄
Wow! Not the right job for them! Better off working in a quarry smashing rocks! Better use of their talents!
And the customers got ….?
Good
9NewsAdel That’s why my case was broken..
Who cares when their boss is the worse crook
Qantas predominantly uses contractors! It’s a excuse to blame contractors and not qantas who award the contracts. Qantas oversees all operations
Great Red Bull product placement 👌
Wow. No wonder baggage ends up scratched and ripped and chipped
And all the other airlines baggage handlers seeing this post now are giggling to themselves thinking I better watch out for spy cams
What’s the point when we get this kind of reply
9NewsPerth Thats what you get for outsourcing Qantas
9NewsMelb Why don’t Qantas sack the subcontractors and go back to the old system of paying your own employees.
Sack them !
Who flies Qantas nowdays?
redbull gives you anger management issues... Apparently.
should be sued for every damage baggage
As Deserved !! Lack of respect for other people's property shown 100%
I got off a Jetstar flight last night and thanked the hostess for not being QANTAS.
Wouldn’t happen in a business where the workers are well paid, treated respectfully and not required to work ridiculous hours. Remind me again how much the CEO is paid? qantas auspol $QAN
When I did a stint working as a baggage handler, I made sure to not be rough with the bags. Glad to hear they were sacked, and rightfully so.
Sack them for Lack of respect
The staff are treated like North Korean POWs
raywilton4 Kind of assumed all baggage handlers acted like this.
raywilton4 Because this is clearly an isolated incident. Problem solved 🙄
Absolute disrespect and unnecessary!!
Oh no
Everytime my bag comes back its ripped lol now i know why
9NewsDarwin Oh my god those handlers are wild animals 🤮
Gives you wings eh
Do they work for Rex as well?
Who placed camera there? Why its being noticed now if camera is at that place since start?
That action takes more effort than doing the job right.
Now do the CEO. He'd be manhandling us like a duck egg on a trampoline.🦆🥚🥚🥚
Name and shame the dogs🤬
I hope they got fired.
FMed523 my Med personally wouldn't have that
And why are you blurring the faces 9newsaus ?
Twitters ability to make news go viral and action taken is amazing. Imagine if a completely biased federal organisation with 3 letters had access to influence it in very specific ways.
We pay such a stupid premium for domestic flights and it takes a random to take footage of staff before Qantas meets its basic duty of care. Just another example that fellow Australian's get robbed and receive sub standard service.
It was deliberate and disgusting. Particularly from the bloke closest to the camera. A thug.
So it should, maybe other departments should be investigated
Scum
Qantas can shove they're flights were they fit. Been a frequent flyer for a very long time, Australian taxpayers funded them when covid started and how do they repay us. By extorting the prices right before xmas. Nothing but money hungry pricks!
Redbull giving luggage some wings
BuggaThe We investigated ourselves and found nothing
I wonder how thorough that investigation will be. The (reprehensible) actions of the handlers are an effect, it’s the cause(s) of that effect that need to be determined. How far up will the investigation peer to determine root causal factors?
9NewsMelb To all those who think the decision is wrong, the TWU agreed to a significant payrise WITH backpay for baggage handlers. Therefore don't go blaming poor conditions. It's 💯 attitude and they deserved what they got.
9NewsGoldCoast logical next career move, scaffolding construction
9NewsSyd Red Bull doesn’t give you wings. It gets you sacked.
They do have to work at top speed, so ‘delicate handling’ isn’t really feasible with high volumes of luggage. However, overhead slams, like wrestling, is completely unnecessary🤦🏻♀️. Not surprised they were cut from the team.
9NewsMelb 🎉🥳🍻
9NewsAdel Absolutely dogs
Contractors..
🤦🏻♂️
There’s 3 doing the wrong thing in the clip ?
9NewsPerth Probably one of those bastards that broke my new case 😡
They put in more effort to do a worse job 🤦♂️
Good
