Baby left alone dies while father works 10-hour shift

Mr Belizaire left his daughter at home on the evening of December 22, when he was called in to work at around 4pm,According to an arrest report, Mr Belizaire tried to get a babysitter for his daughter after getting called into work that night, but couldn’t find one.“As the suspect was leaving for work, he knew it was wrong to leave the decedent unattended for such a long period, but felt pressured to work because of impending rent being due,” the report said.

He was arrested after calling emergency services on December 23 to report that he had come home to find his daughter dead, and was released on bail on January 4.The report did note that the father found the daughter on her stomach when he got home.The charge could carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

We all have to work to pay the bills.... you can't leave a baby alone mofo. Lock him up.

it's hard to judge him, he is obviously in poverty and i am sure he didn't want to leave her unattended. If i was in his shoes, i would have taken her with me to work somehow. it's difficult to imagine their circumstances.

I feel terribly sorry for the baby. What a silly thing to do. Whatever poverty and hardships you face in life, you don't leave a baby unattended for 10 hours! If you get evicted then you get evicted together.

If he was not able to organise a babysitter, a relative or friend to care for the baby, then he should not have gone to work and left it - what are we supposed to feel sorry for him? What a stupid thing to do! US has soup kitchens, food banks, food stamps and charities to turn to
