Authorities search for fisherman after falling overboard south of Townsville

A search is underway off the coast of Townsville in North Queensland for a missing 41-year-old fisherman after his 45-year-old companion was rescued early today.Police say the two experienced fishermen left the Townsville boat ramp on Friday eveningA 45-year-old man was found safe early this morning and authorities are searching for the 41-year-old man

The 45-year-old man was taken ashore in waters off Sandfly Creek about 6:30am and treated for exposure, before being taken to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition. "Unfortunately, the current was relatively strong, and the boat drifted further away faster than they could swim back to the boat," he said.

"[He was] swimming in the direction of the coastline, exhausted, exposed to the elements of the ocean, and in shock in relation to his friend, who's still missing," he said.Sea and air search continues
