As jobs data shows many industries bouncing back, travel and tourism employees remain among the most likely group to need to change jobs.

Victoria Lowen is something of a poster woman for the need to adjust careers fast and dramatically during the disruption of COVID-19.

By April, she had been stood down with the majority of the airline’s 30,000 staff and started putting out calls to friends who may need hands on deck, saying, “I’ll do anything, keep me in mind.”“Nothing is beneath me, an honest day’s work is an honest day’s work,” said Ms Lowen, who had been promoted by the airline to first officer in 2017 after 10 years as a second officer.

Travel industry customer service staff have switched to the insurance industry and “hundreds ... are being offered permanent roles”.
